2008 Conference Proportioning Technology Investments
Barbara Schane Jackson of Hildebrandt joins Karen Levy and John Alber in discussing how should law firms decide what is the right level of spending for IT. They explore the strategic considerations that apply to technology investment and look at publicly available metrics and peel off the covers to get at what firms are really thinking when they set levels of investment. Are higher levels of investment true competitive differentiators or should money be spent elsewhere in the firm?
2007 Conference Innovative Use of Technology in the Legal Department
David Rohde of Baker Robbins leads a panel including Corporate members Peter Vissicchio, Mike Russell and Risa Schwartz, who summarize the latest and greatest in their departments.  Three very different innovative areas will be discussed: (1) a FAQ project: streamlining the process of finding what you need when you need it; (2) data warehousing disparate information for dash-boarding and report building - bringing all that data into focus without overwhelming the IT staff or the user; and (3) electronic management of paper invoices (yes, this can be innovative!).

We explore a number of models, including direct-revenue models (selling technology), relationship-building models, competition-enhancing models, reputation-enhancing models, and litigation support and EDD models.
2007 Conference Diversity as a Business Strategy
Connie Hoffman, Jay Kim, and Norm Mullock from Redwood Analytics ciscuss how the diversity movement now reaches far beyond regulated industries such as defense contractors. Companies report undertaking their diversity initiatives "because it is the right thing to do" and because "diverse firms perform better and deliver better results." How are firms responding to these diversity initiatives? How do these initiatives bear on business strategies for firms? What role can technology play in all this (hint: a few firms are using technology to great advantage here)?  (Note: large file, may take time to open)
