ILTA Tip of the Week - Excel: Named Ranges

By ILTA Tips posted 03-06-2017 11:18

Using Named Ranges in Excel

You can use named ranges in Excel for easy calculation or navigation!  I personally use this any time I am creating a VLOOKUP in Excel (but that’s a different tip of the week altogether).

To Create a Named Range:

  1. Select the cells in the range.
  2. Click in the Name Box (upper left-hand corner of the screen, beside the formula bar).
  3. Type a name for the range (do not use spaces).
  4. Press Enter.

To Navigate to a Named Range:

  1. Click the down arrow in the Name Box and select the range’s name.

To Use a Named Range in a Formula:

  1. Use the name in replacement of the range you would have typically used (i.e., instead of “A1:A12”, type “TaxRates”)
