This past week members discussed data analytics and more. Jump to the “Something Extra” section for a strategy to align your department with your organization’s business initiatives. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

The Data of Our (Work) Lives

Whether you want it or not, you have the data. The real challenge lies in the analysis of the data. To begin, watch Tim Golden’s ILTA Video called Legal Data Analytics 101. He provides the background on data analytics with use cases, pitfalls to avoid, methods, tools and more. Next, read a blog post. Will Pett, Conan Hines and Justin Tullo offer pointers in “Building a Business Case for Data Analytics.” We analyze data ultimately to serve our clients better and improve the bottom line. To understand our clients’ perspectives start that with Pratik Patel’s ILTA white paper article, “Can We See What They See? A Preview of Law Department Analytics Tools and Metrics.” What’s next in data analytics? ILTA volunteer, David Hobbie, gives us a glimpse. He wrote about his experience at the Tableau conference last November in “Report from Tableau Conference: 13110 Data Enthusiasts Descend on Austin.”

SOMETHING EXTRA –Building Bridges to Align with the Business and ILTA Radio

John Alber recognizes that we all understand IT and other departments must align with the business of the firm/organization. Understanding does not always translate to doing. Alber provides a strategy for doing in “The Four Essential Bridges Between Tech and the Business.”

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics. If there are specific topics you would like assistance exploring, please contact me at joanne@iltanet.org
