LegalSEC Chair

Summary: The responsibility of the LegalSEC Chair is to help set the strategic direction of ILTA’s LegalSEC initiative in providing information, resources and education to improve the security posture of the global legal community. The LegalSEC Chair leads the steering committee in providing direction and priorities for programming within ILTA’s overall programming framework, working with industry groups in the assessment, prevention, detection and mitigation of risks and exploring opportunities to support emerging standards, frameworks and compliance regulations.

Term: Two years

Compensation: Volunteer leaders of the association do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Chair must serve in this role with a focus on the full scope of the membership, considering various firm sizes and types of organizations (i.e., firms, law departments, government entities, etc.) and putting aside personal (or individual firm) objectives in deference to the needs of the membership.

Meetings:

  • Lead the monthly steering committee teleconferences
  • Attend the LegalSEC Summit
  • Lead in-person meeting at LegalSEC Summit, ILTACON and in-person LegalSEC Steering Committee meetings
  • Participate on monthly advisory committee teleconferences
  • Plan ad hoc meetings as needed
  • Delegate and mentor team members to utilize and cultivate strengths

Recruitment and Ambassadorship:

  • Identify and mentor future leaders
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization (ILTA)
  • Attend ILTA's LegalSEC Summit and ILTACON
  • Seek out and solicit new membership when appropriate
  • Work with volunteer leaders and staff in educating active members about the benefits of ILTA membership and LegalSEC
  • Represent the LegalSEC mission and extend the value throughout the legal community

Qualifications and Skills:

Required Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience working in a position focused on security/risk within the legal profession
  • Attendance at ILTA's LegalSEC Summit and ILTACON
  • At least one year of experience on the ILTA's LegalSEC Steering Committee
  • Advanced knowledge of legal security technologies used in law firms or law departments as it relates to the scope of the steering committee
  • Experience leading and managing teams; managing projects and/or simultaneous initiatives; conducting meetings (in person and via teleconference); identifying and analyzing problems and suggesting and implementing solutions; and mentoring
  • A good understanding of ILTA's culture in ILTA volunteer role(s) – is a good ILTA ambassador
  • Willingness to commit time required (8+ hours per month)
  • Willingness to accept direction from ILTA's Board of Directors or staff as required
  • Willingness at all times to reflect ILTA's core values
