Sorting a List in Word

Do you need to sort a list in Word, but it’s not in a table format?  No problem!
You can do one of two things:  add the sort button to your Quick Access Toolbar or use a keyboard shortcut.

To Add the Sort Button to the Quick Access Toolbar

  1. Right-click on the Quick Access Toolbar and choose “Customize Quick Access Toolbar”.
  2. In the first picklist, choose “All Commands”.
  3. Select Sort in the left side.
  4. Click the Add button in the center of the screen.
  5. Click OK.

The sort button will now be on your Quick Access Toolbar.  You can highlight your list and click the button to see the sorting options.

To Sort by Using a Keyboard Shortcut

  1. Highlight your list.
  2. Press Alt + A and then press S.
  3. Your list will be sorted by the first line of each paragraph.

NOTE:  This will just perform a simple sort (by the first line of each paragraph).
