But Wait... There's More

This past week members sought advice on mobile training, iPhone vs. Android, information governance policies and more. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

Mobile Training

Now that you have developed a mobile device management policy (see last week’s “But Wait… There’s More”), it’s time to leverage the mobility. Cindy Mitchell of Travelling Coaches wrote a Peer to Peer piece recently, “What Are Firms Doing to Enable Mobility?” with a section dedicated to responsive mobile learning. Last year ILTA members shared their experiences and suggestions in the “Training PeerShare: Mobile Learning” where you can gain real-life examples from your peers. Despite the added ease of mobility for the trainee, we should still “Develop a Culture of Learning” and consider “Technology Training: Myths and Facts.”

Loyalty – iPhone vs. Android (vs. Windows)

We may not feel vehemently for or against iOS, Android or the Windows phone but many people we support do. Though iOS is in the lead according to the ILTA’s 2015 Technology Survey, page 168, a sizable share still use Android, Blackberry and Windows. Sometimes understanding all perspectives helps us provide the best possible support. The Droid Lawyer shares “New Reasons Droid Lawyers Won’t Love iOS9” while iPhone J.D. shares “Why Lawyers Will Love iOS9.” Outside the legal technology vertical see Zach Epstein of BGR’s view in “8 Reasons I Still Can’t Leave the iPhone and Switch to Android” and Dan Graziano of CNET’s “I Switched from Android to iPhone for Two Months and Here’s What I Learned.” Others tout the Windows phone, but consider Brianna Leung’s conversion in “The Switch! From Windows Phone to Android.”

SOMETHING EXTRA – ILTA’s New Website, Information Governance Policies and FBI vs. Apple News

Did you notice ILTA’s new website? The new site has responsive and intuitive design. Upon login all your recent community discussions appear and the site features a new faceted search for better filtering and sorting of results. To learn more about the search, watch this brief video. Please remember that some old links and bookmarks may no longer work.

Members often ask about information governance policies. Consider registering for the ILTA teleforum on strategies for developing an IG policy, “Develop a Records and IG Plan for Defensible Disposition of E-Docs,” scheduled for March 2nd.

What’s happening with the FBI and Apple dispute? Krebs on Security provided a good overview this week at “The Lowdown on the Apple-FBI Showdown.” You can also keep tabs on Twitter at #FBIvsApple.

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics. If there are specific topics you would like assistance exploring, please contact me at joanne@iltanet.org
