This past week members sought advice on learning management systems, titles for IT positions and more. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

Learning Management Systems

With the constant flow of new and changing tools plus new and changing laws and regulations, law firms and corporate legal departments must keep the continuing education of all employees top of mind. The right learning management system (LMS) can help especially given the self-service generation as profiled in the Self Service Generation Peershare Survey. After implementing an LMS, consider the wide range of applications for the system in the “Training Peershare XI: Learning Management Systems” and the ILTACON 2015 session, “Joining Forces: How Firms Are Working Collaboratively Across Organizational Boundaries to Drive Performance.” Beginning on April 12, 2016 watch for a Roadshow coming near you that will cover LMS implementation and more called “Winning Strategies for Implementing Core Competencies or LTC4 Certification.”

Title Talk

Last week members asked about the prevalence of C-suite representation in the technology departments of law firms. This week members sought input on titles for the fearless frontiersmen and frontierswomen at the Help Desk. Many use the titles recommended by the ITIL Service Operation standards. For a brief introduction to ITIL see the video, “ITIL in 100 Seconds.” If still interested, listen to the “Aligning the Service Desk with the ITIL Framework” session from ILTACON 2015. If all this recent title talk has piqued your interest, you must read CIO’s piece, “The 10 Weirdest Job Titles in Tech.”

SOMETHING EXTRA – Windows 10 and Great Apps

Members continue to ask questions about Windows 10 and mobile device management. ILTA has answers. If you read this in time, attend today’s webinar, “Windows 10: Improved Security and Features” or watch for the recording after March 30 on the ILTA Recordings page. The latest Peer to Peer, There’s an App for That!” contains many time saving and secure application recommendations from experts, case studies and best practices.

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics.
