Start With Security: Lessons Learned from FTC Data Security and Privacy Cases

Description:
The Federal Trade Commission has expanded its efforts to help businesses protect consumers' information through an initiative called Start With Security. The initiative includes guidance for businesses, drawing on lessons learned from over 50 data security cases brought by the FTC through the years. In this webinar, we'll go over the 10 key steps to effective data security laid out in the business guidance.

Speaker:
Jared Ho
works for the Federal Trade Commission, where he has been a Senior Attorney in the Office of Technology Research, Investigations, and most recently, the Division of Privacy of Identity Protection. At the FTC, he has worked on many privacy and security enforcement actions, including Internet of Things-related investigations. Jared has also served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Federal Communications Commission's Enforcement Bureau, advising on cases and rule-making related to privacy and security. Previously, he was a deputy attorney general for the State of New Jersey, leading the office's privacy and data security efforts. Jared brought the first action by any State Attorneys General Office against a mobile app developer for violations of the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, and negotiated a settlement against an online video gaming company for turning users' computers into a botnet to mine for bitcoins. He has also been a visiting fellow at Princeton University's Center for Information Technology Policy.
