ILTACON Encore: Top Challenges and Opportunities in Legal Operations

Legal operations are vital to the success of law firms and legal departments, and they present unique challenges and opportunities across disciplines and verticals. In this webinar fashioned after a TED talk, we'll address this popular topic from ILTACON 2017. Five industry experts will discuss the challenges and opportunities they encounter in ebilling, process improvement, contract management, litigation support and ediscovery. The panelists will discuss their vertical for 10 minutes each, with 10 minutes reserved at the end for Q&A. Both corporate legal departments and law firms are represented on the panel, and members from both are encouraged to attend.

Moderator

Ricky Brooman is a Litigation Support Project Manager at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP, where he consults internal and external clients on best practices for ediscovery and information governance, and manages all phases of the EDRM for litigation matters. Ricky is also a member of ILTA's Business Management Content Coordinating Team, Program Planning Counsel and mentoring program.

Panel

Kate Armstrong is a Senior Project Manager at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada in Toronto. She enjoys managing and delivering legal projects that launch enterprise-wide transformations facilitated by technology. Kate is currently running an integration program for the firm's Vancouver office, and managing CRM and ediscovery projects. In the legal industry for over six years and a project manager for over a decade, she previously worked as a senior project manager with large projects for Toyota Canada, Loblaws, Rexall, Canadian Tire and Ontario Power Generation. Kate is a volunteer on the ILTA Business Management Content Committee.

Vanessa Lozzi is an Assistant Vice President and the Senior Legal Technology and Litigation Support Administrator with Flagstar Bank, headquartered in Troy, MI. Having worked in both law firm and law department environments, her background and expertise are unique and diverse. Vanessa is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Paralegal Section, International Legal Technology Association, where she sits on the Relationship Coordinating Team and the Corporate Project Planning Committee, and ACC Legal Operations.

Glenn O'Brien is the Director of Electronic Discovery for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, where he has worked since 1994. He is responsible for the preservation, collection and processing of all electronically stored information in support of litigation activities involving Liberty Mutual or any of its companies, and maintaining the systems used throughout the process. The ediscovery process Glenn implemented at the company has resulted in saving several million dollars in litigation costs. His prior roles at Liberty include project manager and business analyst for litigation management related systems, and paralegal in the environmental department. Previously, Glenn was a paralegal for two Boston law firms.

Adam Rosenthal is the Litigation Support Manager at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP. His duties mainly consist of managing the department throughout the entire electronic discovery life cycle, interfacing with all parties on specific projects and developing and executing procedures and workflows.

Mike Russell has been designing systems and leading teams to continually improve legal operational efficiency and profitability for over two decades. He is a frequently-referenced author and speaker firmly entrenched at the crossroads of legal, technological and business process expertise in legal service delivery. Mike is currently leading operational excellence for the IR Global Legal Department.
