Across the world, the legal profession is grappling with how to manage the use of AI before the courts. An outright ban would be impractical and impossible to police, but regulations are needed in every jurisdiction to enforce the responsible use of these tools, following a few high-profile incidents that have shown the inappropriate use of AI when wielded by inexperienced lawyers. In this discussion, we will discuss the issues being considered when drafting AI best practice guidelines and the nuances different jurisdictions are mindful of when drafting these rules, to ensure that the use of AI by lawyers happens responsibly, while still allowing the legal profession room to benefit from the efficiencies brought about by this technology.
