Description

In May 2018, two years after it was officially published (in every language of each of the EU countries) the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect. Its goal was to harmonize the protection of personal data across each of the various jurisdictions. It includes provisions for significant penalties, up to €20 million, or 4% annual global revenue, whichever is greater. Now, more than a year later, with two very recent enforcement actions against BA and Marriott Hotels and with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) set to go into effect on January 2020, where do we stand?
