ILTACON Europe 2019 Wrap-Up

ILTA has been successfully running its INSIGHT event in London for fourteen years, but this year saw the very first ILTACON Europe, bringing together over 430 delegates and business partners in a new format including keynotes, hands-on workshops, and panel sessions across two days of sector-specific content.

The conference kicked off with a welcome from ILTA’s Board President, Jim McKenna, followed by an emotional and highly engaging keynote from Stephen Carver, who used the story of NASA’s space shuttle programme to explore failures in planning, procurement, leadership, and change management in the run up to the two shuttle disasters, both of which were predicted by NASA themselves. These themes were explored further in more focused workshops on change, infosec and innovation, whilst a separate “new to legal” stream looked at the make up of a law firm, and the technologies employed to allow them to function.

The second day opened with client GCs and legal tech providers discussing the role of legal tech in the provision of legal services in the next few years, a topic that could probably fill an entire conference and one that we hope to revisit during the year through local meetings and webinars. The rest of the second day saw a dozen different sessions that offered topics ranging from e-disclosure to Office 365 to talent, skills and leadership, and a well-attended business partner zone with over 50 technology providers represented. The two days combined offered up to 16 hours of self-certified CPD for a range of disciplines, including CISSP, PMP, and BCS certifications.

It takes a huge amount of effort behind the scenes to bring together an event of this nature and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteer planning team (including for the first-time business partner volunteers) and ILTA staff for all the hard work and good humour in making this happen. Just as importantly, our sincere thanks to our business partners and delegates for supporting this event. We hope you made new contacts, thought about things differently, learned something about ILTA, and enjoyed yourself in the process.

If you would like to learn more about ILTA or get involved in volunteering please contact ILTAEurope@iltanet.org.

We look forward to seeing you at local events throughout the year and at next year’s ILTACON Europe in November 2020.

Best wishes,

Andrew Powell and Tony McKenna
