Summary:
The responsibility of the LegalSEC Chair is to help set the strategic direction of ILTA’s LegalSEC initiative in providing information, resources, and education to improve the security posture of the global legal community. The LegalSEC Chair leads the steering committee in providing direction and priorities for programming within ILTA’s programming framework, working with industry groups in the assessment, prevention, detection, and mitigation of risks, and exploring opportunities to support emerging standards, frameworks, and compliance regulations

Term
LegalSEC Chair serves a two-year term.

Compensation
Steering Committee Members do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Chair must serve the role with a focus on the full scope of the membership, considering various firm sizes as well as types of organizations (i.e. firms, law departments, government entities, etc.) putting aside personal (or individual firm) objectives in deference to the needs of the membership.

Attending Meetings:
• Lead the monthly steering committee teleconferences.
• Attend LegalSEC Summit
• Lead in-person meeting at LegalSEC Summit, ILTACON, and in-person LegalSEC Steering Committee meetings
• Participate on monthly advisory committee teleconferences.
• Ad hoc meetings may be called if circumstances warrant.
• Participate in the preparation of agenda, lead discussion items, delegate and mentor team members to utilize and cultivate strengths.

Recruiting & Ambassadorship
• Identify and mentor future leaders.
• Serve as an ambassador for the organization.
• Attend ILTA LegalSEC Summit and ILTACON, seeking out and soliciting new membership when appropriate.
• Work with volunteer leaders and staff in educating active members about the benefits of ILTA membership and LegalSEC.
• Represent the LegalSEC mission and extending the value throughout the legal community.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications
• At least three years’ experience working in the legal industry with a security/ position.
• Attendance at LegalSEC and ILTACON.
• At least one year on the LegalSEC steering committee.
• Advanced knowledge of legal security technologies used in law firms or law departments as it relates to the steering committee scope.
• Good understanding of ILTA culture in ILTA volunteer role(s) – a good ambassador.

Requirements
• Willingness to commit required (8+ hours per month).
• Willingness to accept direction from of Directors or staff as required.
• Willingness at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values.
Experience
• Leading and managing teams

• Conducting meetings (in person and via teleconference)
• Identifying & analyzing problems and suggesting & implementing solutions
