Tips for Creating a Successful Application

Preparation and information gathering

Download a copy of the application and get familiar with information being requested

Depending on the award category, the application can take some time to complete. Read through each question and determine how and when you will complete the application.

If you need information such as references or case studies from others, ensure that they are on board and can meet the timelines required.

Brainstorm ideas with others and when applicable, involve your team. By involving others, sometimes you can create a richer and more compelling story to tell. For instance, what makes your story unique? How did you go above and beyond to meet needs or raise expectations?

Gather and organize information that may include references, facts, metrics, ROI and more.

Filling out the application

Read the question and focus on answering the question accurately: In your responses, it’s important to address each question in the application guidelines. Every entry is carefully reviewed by multiple judges, looking for the points you have been asked to address.

Lead with the best first: Draw your reader in immediately using “who, what, and why” to put your best points up front. Start with a compelling opening sentence that grabs attention and makes the judges want more.

Show, don’t tell: Frame your entry as a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Bring your story to life using proof points and data such as customer ROI and productivity improvements to show, not tell, the judges how your solution solved a challenge.

Use the downloadable application to create a draft of your entry. You can then copy and paste your answers into the online submission form, including uploading any required documents. Note, applications must be submitted via the online form.

The deadline for submitting applications is June 12, 2020. Extensions will not be granted.

A good edit

Proof your application before submitting. Reading the responses aloud will help you identify spelling or grammatical errors. If desired, get professional help to provide a quick edit of the content.

Until an application is submitted in the final step, you can go back and edit your responses. Sometimes it’s helpful to complete a document with the responses before filling out the online form: Once you submit however, your entry is 100% final.
