“Out of the File Room and Into the Data Center: Records Management for the CIO”
Electronic information is the primary source of a law firm’s business records. A recent survey, for example, indicates that 60 percent of all current business information is stored in e-mail. As document management, e-mail, and other firm-wide systems are the foundation of law firm operations, it is imperative that firms develop strategies to manage business records that are in electronic format. Records management needs to transform from a reactive, back-office, paper-handling function to the active responsibility of every member of the organization. Failing to manage electronic information increases legal risk to the firm and its clients, as well as reduces client service. Join us in a discussion of the complex issues of e-records management: how records management principles must be re-interpreted to accommodate the unique requirements of electronic information, what behavioral changes will be required of end users and anticipated changes in the organization of administrative staff.
