Description:

PURPOSE:

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (“DEIC”) will work to ensure that ILTA advances the organization’s core value to “foster diversity, equity and inclusion within ILTA and throughout the ILTA community.”
 

ROLE:

DEIC Committee Members will address diversity, equity and inclusion (“DEI”) within various areas within ILTA by looking at leadership, programming, charitable and community service, and support for the profession in general.  The team will propose initiatives and actionable recommendations that promote and support DEI within the organization, volunteer roles, and the legal technology community as a whole.
 

TERM:

Two years, beginning as early as February 2023 (with an option to reapply for up to three consecutive terms including any time spent as Chair or Co-chair)

TEAM COMPOSITION:

  • The Chair will serve in the role for one year
  • Co-Chair. The Co-Chair will be elected annually by a majority vote of the DEIC members and will serve in the role for one year, then move into the role of Chair to replace the outgoing Chair;
  • Committee Members. Seven volunteers, who may be from Member Entities, Business Partners, ILTA professional staff, Associate Members, and Industry Participants, will be selected to serve for two years, with an option to reapply for up to three consecutive terms including any time spent as Chair or Co-chair; vacancies will be filled following the selection process outlined below if and as needed;
  • Ex Officio Members. One or both of ILTA’s CEO and the senior ILTA professional staff person responsible for DEI and at least one Board Member Liaison will sit on the DEIC in an ex officio capacity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure ILTA advances its core value of fostering DEI;
  • Identify and create initiatives to promote DEI within ILTA’s volunteer leadership ranks, general membership, and the legal technology community as a whole;
  • Identify, develop and deliver DEI content that helps promote DEI for the ILTA community;
  • Develop a recommendation regarding which characteristics of DEI ILTA should focus on;
  • Conduct research, surveys, and other investigations to establish a baseline for the ILTA community’s current level of DEI;
  • Develop metrics and benchmarks for evaluating ILTA’s success in advancing DEI;
  • Update and revise DEI Policy to the Board as needed;
  • Propose and outline programs for enhancing DEI;
  • Initiate and deliver special projects designed to advance ILTA’s DEI, and
  • Recommend other actions that support DEI throughout the organization.

 

DUTIES:

  • Participate in tri-weekly meetings
  • Work with other ILTA volunteer groups to promote and encourage DEI
  • Review programming to ensure it is diverse, equitable and inclusive
  • Evaluate other programming options that other associations offer
  • Present recommendations to the Board of Directors
  • Provide quarterly status reports to the ILTA Community

 

 QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE:

Objective Criteria:

  • ILTA member, ILTA staff, Business Partner, Associate Member or Industry Participant
  • At least two years’ experience working in legal technology
  • Willingness to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required
  • Willingness at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values

COMPENSATION

ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for approved expenses.
