But Wait... There's More - BI Tools and Moving to Office 365

This past week members discussed moving to Office 365, business intelligence tools and more. Jump to the “Something Extra” section for information on proposed state level privacy laws and thoughts on productivity. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

The Big Move – Office 365

Packing up and moving into a new home proves challenging but the result is often well worth it. A move to Office 365 may also prove challenging, but your ILTA peers have charted the course for you and found it well worth it too. There are many questions along the way and ILTA has answers. Where does one start? At ILTACON 2016, an Office 365 expert answered this question in “Office 365: Where Do You Start?” An ILTA Video recording answered the question, “What Does Being Office 365 Compatible Mean?” With a move to Office 365, you have much to consider. Watch the video recording from “Exchange On-Premises vs. Exchange Online – A Law Firm Bakeoff” to learn the perspectives of your peers at firms of all sizes. In February, ILTA hosted a virtual roundtable, “O365 - Peer Insight on Exchange Online.” Though ILTA does not record virtual roundtables, we created a Takeaway document highlighting major points discussed and tips from your peers who have already migrated. Watch for an announcement about a second virtual roundtable continuing this discussion coming soon. (To access the takeaway, sign in or join the Microsoft – Server Applications Community today.)

Finding the Right BI Tool

A member recently asked for recommendations on business intelligence (BI) tools. Review the recording from ILTACON 2016, “Business Intelligence Showcase,” which includes several implementations, use cases and value assessments. An ILTA Video showcased two firms, one in the development stage of building dashboards and one recently rolled out in “Dashboards, Why Bother?” Capture a better understanding of how UK firms implement BI tools with “The Business of Data Analytics and Business Intelligence,” recorded at the ILTA UK conference in late 2016, INSIGHT.

SOMETHING EXTRA – Proposed State Level Privacy Regulations and Are You Feeling Productive or Distracted?

The President of the United States signed into law Joint Resolution 34 nullifying the Federal Communications Commission rule called “Protecting the Privacy of Customers of Broadband and Other Telecommunications Services." The Center for Democracy and Technology reported that California, Illinois, Minnesota and Nevada have introduced laws related to privacy in “States Step Up to Protect Privacy in Wake of FCC Ruling.” The article includes links to the bills so you can track their progress if any law changes could affect your organizations.

Do you have 1 minute and 32 seconds to spare? If so, read Chris Bailey’s article on productivity and distraction, “You’re Distracted More Often Than You Think.” Irony of ironies, I received email notifications twice during my 1 minute and 32 second read. I know, you are jealous that I only received two emails.

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics.
