On Thursday 30th June in the stunning new London office space of Milbank LLP, ILTA hosted its Special Interest Group (SIG) summer social. It was an eagerly anticipated event as it was the first in-person SIG event since 2019.

The evening started with a cool glass of prosecco followed by a warm welcome from Annette Brown, Head of IT at Milbank LLP and the Education & Training SIG co-Chair. Annette explained that the evening was an opportunity for all of the SIG groups (who usually run their meetings separately) to get together and enjoy a social.

Annette then introduced Tony McKenna, IT Director at Howard Kennedy LLP and Executive Vice President of ILTA, Tony gave a brief introduction touching on his history with ILTA, the upcoming ILTACON scheduled for 21st – 25thAugust at Gaylord National, National Harbor, MD, USA and ILTACON Europe which will be taking place in London on the 17th November (Member registration open for both ILTACON & ILTACON Europe via the ILTA website).

Tony also spoke about the work that he and Annette have been doing with the Positive Transformation Group (PTG). The PTG work to Connect Corporates with Communities (CCC). Corporates can use the Levy (a tax for any employer with a wage bill over £3m, taxed at half a percent) for training existing employees, as well as recruiting apprentices. Tony and Annette also co-chaired the Trailblazer Group for the newly approved Application Support Lead Standard, which has been endorsed by ILTA.

The evening concluded with drinks and canapés followed by delicious cupcakes and plenty of networking!

The theme from the feedback of the event is clear, everyone was happy to be back together in-person. As Jon Segger (Security SIG Chair) said “It was an enjoyable evening, great to get together again in ‘real life”, the same view was echoed by Jenni Tellyn (Knowledge Management SIG Co-Chair) “It was great to see people in person after so long. The cupcakes were epic and the view from the Milbank terrace was gorgeous”. Jon Beaumont (Knowledge Management SIG Co-Chair) added “It was great to meet people in person after all of those Zooms and discuss some of the challenges and breakthroughs in the KM sphere. It was also fantastic to catch-up with some folks that I haven’t seen and barely spoken to since pre-Covid, all within a wonderful setting”.

We would like to thank everybody that attended the event, including our seven sponsors, Litera, Fliplet, Absolute, Arctic Wolf, eSentire, Netdocuments and LegalRM.

Looking forward to many more future in person events!
