ILTA Tip of the Week - iManage "can't open this item" View Answer

By ILTA Tips posted 06-06-2016 11:22

This tip is in honor of Honora Wade, who started the ILTA User group many, many years ago, and help make it a successful part of ILTA. Last December she asked a question that Dennis was able to answer her. I was glad she did, because I too was struggling with this very question.

Honora always had a great inquiring mind to ask why, how does this work, and let’s get it fixed, and worked on it until it.  We shall miss her zest and energy for life and living. As Jeffrey Brandt so apply put it in his PinHawk Daily Digest, “In honor of Honora and her beautiful spirit, take some time to sing a little louder, dance a little wilder and maybe play a little ukulele. The world is quieter and less bright today. Rest in peace Honora. You are missed.”

Honora’s question: We have seen the following serious WorkSite view issue with our primary tester on the Win7/Office 2010 image (both on her primary and her VM workstation).  After reimaging, her first visit to the Document Worklist is fine. However, it fails from then on - Outlook displays a warning pop-up that "Outlook cannot open this view."

Answer: When certain email workspace folders were selected, we would get a pop-up stating "Outlook cannot display this view".

When this occurs you can't just uncheck "Conversation View" because it completely changes what is available in the ribbon on the "View" tab.  Here is a pic of how that was changing.

This is occurs when someone specifies "conversation view" for an iManage folder.  It randomly corrupts any folder they touch in a workspace with email in it.  Also there is a way a user can select it in their inbox and tell Outlook to use that "Conversation View" in ALL folders, including FileSite folders.  The following is the fix iManage Support gave me and it worked on my PC (I was able to duplicate the issue on my personal workspace folders) as well as the user who was affected.

1.) Close Outlook.

2.) Delete views from the following location: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\iOutlook

3.) Rename Interwoven Key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Interwoven

4.) Rename: FRMCACHE.DAT in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FORMS

5.) Restart Outlook.

6.) Re-add the DMS

7.) You may also need to go to a worksite folder and click the "Change Preview Orientation" selection in the "WorkSite" part of the ribbon.
