But Wait… There’s More 2015 LegalSEC Summit edition - Day 2 Recap

The LegalSEC Summit concluded but we will continue to learn from it. Attendees loved what they learned and the community that developed around LegalSEC Summit 2015. Many felt they had to make tough choices in programs to attend therefore I am highlighting a few of the great moments from Day 2. (Click here to read the Day 1 Recap.)

This Just In: Back in March ILTA announced an initiative between law firms and the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) regarding cybersecurity. Yesterday, Cindy Donaldson, FS-ISAC Vice President of Products and Services, presented to attendees highlighting the benefits of information sharing organizations…A group of ILTA members is working towards establishing an ISAO for law firms, and are receiving strategic guidance and support from FS-ISAC, an entity that has 15 years of information sharing experience in the financial sector. For more information, see the LegalSEC Community page announcements.

For Day 2 Twitter was alive with comments about “Incident Response Planning for Legal” by Phil Waterbury, John Verry, Tom Brennan, and Matt Curtin, “Security and IG: Living Together in Perfect Harmony?” by Jim Fortmuller, Terry Coan, David Forrestall, and Brian Donato, and “Something Old, Something New: Energize Your Security Awareness Program!” by Jeffrey Brandt, Matt Beland, Peter Mills, Peter Engstrom, and Julia Montgomery.

The team presenting “Incident Response Planning for Legal” caught attendees’ attention right away with references to Mr. Miyagi of The Karate Kid and Mike Tyson suggesting that an organization must have a definitive plan designed and implementable and not just pay lip service to a plan. Presenters asked many compelling questions such as, “Can you disable the Internet connectivity to the firm?” and if so, then what happens? To learn more about Incident Response Planning, see the “Top Considerations for Incident Response” on the LegalSEC Community page.

You may have the 1982 “Ebony and Ivory” tune by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney stuck in your head now but you have also learned from “Security and IG: Living Together in Perfect Harmony” that “Security is a process, not a product.” The email retention discussion was lively during this session. Jeffrey Brandt tweeted a quote, "If an email is important enough to keep, its important enough to file or folder" AMEN! #saynotoarchiving

One of the programs to wrap up a great LegalSEC Summit for 2015, “Something Old, Something New: Energize Your Security Awareness Program”, taught us that good security requires steadfast attention.

ILTA will provide the audio recordings and slides of these and the other LegalSEC Summit 2015 sessions on the Connected Community soon. Learn more about the ILTA LegalSEC group on their Connected Community page. Keep an eye out tomorrow for a recap of the SharePoint Symposium as well.
