Small Firms Moving to Cloud for Electronic Discovery

For the Summer 2018 issue of Peer to Peer, ILTA Program Planning Council member Ricky Brooman interviewed ILTA members Aaron Crockett, Christopher Hunt, and John Sawyer. These discussions took a deep-dive into electronic discovery for small and medium firms.

During the one-on-one interviews, Crockett, Hunt, and Sawyer were each asked a series of questions and asked to reflect, from both their personal and firm perspectives, on themes covering:

  User experience

  Service, support, and software

  Billing

  Stakeholders

  Security and IG

  Approach and strategy

  Challenges

Over the course of their interviews, they covered some or all of the following questions related to electronic discovery:

Did you have to adjust how you billed your eDiscovery work to account for increased/different costs?

What would you say to people who say the cloud isn't as secure as an on-premise solution?

Has moving to the cloud changed how you think about data storage?

Are you quicker to dispose of inactive matters?

What are some of the driving factors for deciding on the platforms you chose?

What did the process look like for vetting and rolling out e-Discovery Solution?

As a small firm what was the largest challenge you faced in the process?

Who were your most important stakeholders and how did you get them on board?

Being a small firm, you wear lots of hats. Does the move to cloud alleviate some of this responsibility in the eDiscovery vertical or require more oversight?

ILTA invites to you listen to the full audio files for each interviewee, below. Each interview lasts about 30 minutes. ILTA thanks Ricky Brooman for facilitating these great discussions and thanks Aaron Crockett, Christopher Hunt, and John Sawyer for their engaging interviews!
