Discernis

Discernis provides AI-Native Discovery and legal investigations software designed to process, analyze, and prioritize documents. Discernis builds and hosts its own proprietary AI system, which enables our models to better understand context across entire data sets in an infinitely scalable fashion. Discernis AI is specially tuned to understand the entire context of datasets, identifying the connections between sets of documents that other AI platforms miss. And because Discernis AI is developed and maintained privately, Discernis can deploy directly on customer VPC or on-prem deployments for maximum privacy, control, and security.

The platform is organized around two core use cases:

  • Discovery supports first-pass document review, responsiveness, and issue analysis. Users enter prompts from their review protocol, and the platform assesses each document for responsiveness, prioritizes results, and provides an explanation for its classifications. Discernis also includes privilege detection functionality to help identify protected attorney-client communications during review.

  • Investigations apply the same underlying architecture to internal inquiries, compliance reviews, and other sensitive matters. Discernis analyzes documents in relation to identified topics, surfaces related information and parties, and is designed to help investigators develop a fuller picture of a matter's facts more efficiently than manual review. It also helps in-house teams evaluate outside counsel requirements.

Discernis identifies documents using contextual meaning, reducing false positives and identifying documents that other approaches miss. Document classification decisions are accompanied by explanations, providing reviewers with a stated basis for confidence during second-pass review.

Deployment and Pricing

Discernis’ approach is structured to accommodate a range of data governance requirements. Discernis is available in cloud, hybrid, or fully on-premises environments without a reduction in AI functionality. Pricing is structured on a per-document basis rather than per-gigabyte or per-user fees.

Common use cases

There are a wide range of situations and applications to gain speed, performance, and results-based benefits by using the Discernis platform. These include:

  • Responsiveness review and prioritization for litigation document sets

  • Privilege review to identify and log protected communications

  • Internal investigations involving complaint review, policy violations, or personnel data

  • Compliance reviews related to regulatory or EEO requirements

  • Risk assessment involving contract review, third-party liability exposure, or product/quality issues

Discernis serves three primary customer segments: law firms handling matters with large data sets, in-house legal departments managing discovery and investigations, and legal service providers (LSPs) that deploy the platform to streamline their service offerings to law firm and corporate clients.
