Description:

PURPOSE: 
The Local Experience Council (the “LEC”) will oversee the activities of the Member Liaisons, recommend changes to the menu of options available for the local experience, and provide advice and feedback to the professional staff on sponsorship issues relating to the local experience.

The Local Experience Council reports to the Board of Directors

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The co-chairs' role is to lead the Local Experience Council, and includes:

  • Along with Volunteer Council, complete development of this new volunteer structure.
  • Implement ILTA’s strategic plan along with any strategic goals set by the Board, track appropriate metrics, set measurable goals, and develop actionable tracking mechanisms
  • Communicate strategies and goals to Council and Committees
  • Oversee and facilitate committee progress
  • Participate in expanding the international reach of the organization, balancing existing expertise while embracing and integrating unique cultural values.

 

TERM: 

Two-year terms with a maximum of three consecutive terms; renewable subject to selection process; can reapply after two years of non-service: January 1 to December 31. Terms will be staggered where possible.  For the inaugural Council Co-Chairs, one will serve one year, and the other will serve two years.  Going forward, all terms will be two years.

 

IMPLEMENTATION DUTIES:

  • Evaluate and confirm areas of responsibilities and communication mechanisms with other Councils
  • Work with the Local Experience Implementation Task Force to confirm Local Experience Council and subcommittees volunteer structure
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteer leaders to develop transition plans and implementation schedule
  • Participate in committee member selection and drafting of job descriptions
  • Assist with onboarding and integration of all subcommittees
  • Create and communicate goals for Committees
  • Drive implementation of subcommittees, including definition of scope and duties, initial staffing, leadership and communication mechanisms
  • Drive efforts to integrate and transition member liaisons into providing a more meaningful local member experience including definition of scope and duties, initial staffing, leadership and communication mechanisms

    ONGOING DUTIES:

    • Collaborate on initiatives or challenges impacting the local member experience.
    • Co-lead Council’s subcommittees and meetings in collaboration with staff, including development of agendas
    • Participate in quarterly strategic All Council calls with Board of Directors
    • Attend in-person meetings (potentially 3 a year with costs covered by ILTA)
    • Oversee initiatives designed to strengthen relations among members and business partners and develop improvements to communication across the organization
    • Evaluate local engagement offerings and needs to maximize value, satisfaction, and diverse participation
    • Raise global awareness of ILTA and recommend outreach strategies
    • Facilitate existing and recommend opportunities for new targeted collaborations with key complimentary legal industry organizations for mutually beneficial relationships
    • Collaborate with staff to ensure appropriate communication, marketing, and execution of strategies
    • Evaluate industry trends and recommend new membership and business partner categories to stay aligned with the evolution of the legal ecosystem

     

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE: 

    Minimum Criteria: 

    • Active ILTA member, business partner or industry participant

    • Complete the ILTA Conflict of Interest Form
    • Direct Committee experience or equivalent experience within ILTA or another organization

    • Ability to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required

    • Ability at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values

     

    Preferred Skills: 

    • Prior volunteer experience in planning local meetings

    • Experience with staffing, developing and leading teams

    • Willingness to collaborate with other volunteers in implementing this new council within the volunteer structure

    COMPENSATION:  

    ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.
