Description:

PURPOSE:
The Scholarship Committee is comprised of ILTA Members and Business Partners who are passionate about peer recognition, fair processes and guidelines, and excellent work being done in the Legal Technology space. Committee members will collaborate with ILTA Staff to review ILTA Awards Program processes, manage the program, and make recommendations for improvements.

ROLE:
The Scholarship Committee is a team of volunteers responsible for delivering ILTA’s annual awards programs which includes individual and organization awards, scholarships, and ILTA volunteer recognition. The Scholarship Committee will work with ILTA staff to develop and improve upon guidelines, as well as application and selection processes.

TERM:
Two years, renewable subject to annual interview/approval process: October 1 - Sept 30

TEAM COMPOSITION:
The team is comprised of a diverse representation of the ILTA community, including business partners and members from corporate legal, law firms, educational institutes, legal associations, and government and judicial entities; and consist of:

  • Two (2) Co-chairs; and
  • Seven (7) team members


The team will be supported by the ILTA Senior Project Manager as primary liaison and the ILTA Global Membership Manager as secondary liaison.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review current and proposed processes and guidelines and make recommendations
  • Develop and improve upon the nomination and application processes
  • Determine best process for judging of awards and scholarships (which may be inclusive of helping to select judges for awards)
  • Decide on awards categories
  • Create Descriptions and Criteria for awards and scholarships
  • Determine cadence of awards
  • Determine when awards should be presented
  • Provide recommendations for promoting award finalists and winners
  • Test awards and scholarship online platforms


CO-CHAIRs, ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with ILTA Staff to set meeting agendas and encourage team member participation and collaboration;
  • Steer and lead committee calls;
  • Meet with ILTA Staff (as needed) to determine next steps for the committee 


COMMITTEE DUTIES:

  • Participate in monthly one-hour conference calls
  • Liaise with staff and volunteer groups to execute deliverables
  • Participate in team discussions via email, phone, and ILTA platforms

In Person Meetings (with most travel expenses covered by ILTA):
  • None

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE:

Agreement to Recuse Oneself:
During service on the Awards Committee, members serving are not permitted to submit either themselves nor their employer for an award or scholarship. If an entity or individual that a committee member works for, or works with, applies or is nominated for either an award or scholarship; the committee member shall be recused from all projects related to the review and selection of such application or nomination. Committee members may not nominate nor apply for an award or scholarship for up to 12 months following completion of service as an Awards Committee member. Thereafter, the committee member may again participate in the awards and scholarship application process as a citizen-member.

Objective Criteria:
  • ILTA member or Business Partner
  • Complete the ILTA Conflict of Interest Form
  • At least two years’ experience working in legal technology
  • Willingness to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required
  • Willingness at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values

COMPENSATION:
ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.
