Description:

PURPOSE:
The Volunteer Development Committee engages, develops, and mentors volunteers. It promotes volunteering throughout the ILTA organization and maintains ILTA's volunteer pipeline. The Committee ensures volunteers have the resources, support and satisfaction needed to grow into organizational leaders.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The committee member’s role is to serve on the Volunteer Development Committee, and includes:
• Participating in expanding the international reach of the organization, balancing existing expertise while embracing and integrating unique cultural values.
• Ensuring volunteers' skills are strongly aligned to the appropriate volunteer leadership roles
• Ensuring satisfaction and fulfillment of ILTA volunteers
• Executing member development and recruiting plans as assigned

The co-chair’s role is to lead the Volunteer Development Committee, and includes:
• Participating in the Volunteer Council to collaborate and cross-pollinate planning across the committees
• Creating and implementing overall strategy with Council Co-Chairs to ensure best use of available resources
• Participating in expanding the international reach of the organization, balancing existing expertise while embracing and integrating unique cultural values
• Ensure volunteers' skills are strongly aligned to the appropriate volunteer leadership roles
• Ensuring satisfaction and fulfillment of ILTA volunteers

TERM:
Two-year terms with a maximum of three consecutive terms; renewable subject to selection process. January 1 to December 31

COMMITTEE DUTIES:
• Attend meetings of the Volunteer Development Committee
• Identify tasks, issues, and items requiring involvement of the Volunteer Council
• Engage new and existing volunteers by promoting the roles, benefits, volunteer progression and pathways to leadership
• Provide guidance to volunteers looking for their “place” in the organization
• Identify methods to target young professionals, international and diverse members, and business partners to promote volunteer positions
• Identify best strategies for recruiting international volunteers to grow ILTA volunteering outside of North America
• Work with the Volunteer Operations Committee, identify professional development opportunities and skills to incorporate into volunteer position descriptions and team responsibilities
• Survey ILTA volunteers on the volunteer experience and distribute results to ensure ILTA volunteer experience is fulfilling
• Contribute to volunteer orientations to ensure volunteers understand role expectations and how success is measured
• Ensure performance feedback is provided for all volunteers, including mentoring and coaching for volunteers providing feedback and volunteers with unsatisfactory performance

CO-CHAIR DUTIES:
• Prepare for and lead meetings of the Volunteer Development Committee
• Attend and participate in scheduled meetings of the Volunteer Council
• Report plans and activities of the Volunteer Development Committee to the Volunteer Council to ensure overall alignment with other committees
• Identify tasks, issues, and items requiring involvement of the Volunteer Council
• Engage new and existing volunteers by promoting the roles, benefits, volunteer progression and pathways to leadership
• Provide guidance to volunteers looking for their “place” in the organization
• Identify methods to target young professionals, international and diverse members, and business partners to promote volunteer positions
• Identify best strategies for recruiting international volunteers to grow ILTA volunteering outside of North America
• Working with the Volunteer Operations Committee, identify professional development opportunities and skills to incorporate into volunteer position descriptions and team responsibilities

• Ensure team leaders use performance contracts and provide feedback is provided to all volunteers, including mentoring and coaching for volunteers with unsatisfactory performance


QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE:

Minimum Criteria:
• Active ILTA member, business partner or industry participant
• Complete the ILTA Conflict of Interest Form
• Volunteer experience, either within ILTA or similar professional organization
• Ability to accept direction from the volunteer leadership and ILTA staff as required
• Ability at all times to act as a reflection of ILTA’s core values
• Ability to lead a team and work within a team environment


Preferred Skills:
• Volunteer leadership experience
• Familiarity with other volunteer organizations
• Experience providing mentoring and feedback
• Enthusiasm for ILTA’s volunteer-led mission and ability to communicate its benefits to potential volunteers
• Ability to respond to shifting priorities

COMPENSATION:
ILTA volunteer leaders do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.
