SUMMARY
The Talent Council is a standing committee tasked with the ongoing development of leaders within the organization through programming, coaching and mentoring efforts aimed at helping individuals develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to serve as an effective leader and, if applicable, Board member. During the biennial election process, the Talent Council solicits nominations, vets all potential candidates, and prepares for the membership a ballot of two to three candidates for President and additional candidates for the remaining Board positions. Once the election is complete, the Talent Council assigns electees to Board positions other than President, i.e., Executive Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director at Large (three).

COMPENSATION
Volunteer leaders of the association do not receive compensation for their services but may be reimbursed for expenses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the biennial Board election process by vetting, evaluating and recommending candidates
• Refine the processes and procedures required to execute the Board election process as the organization evolves
• Provide leadership development opportunities through programming and other activities
• Mentor future leaders to develop the desired knowledge, skills and attributes expected of a Board member which includes serving as a resource for candidates who were not elected to the Board in previous cycles
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for service on the Talent Council, an individual must meet the following minimum requirements:
• An employee of a member entity in good standing or an Associate Participant who does not intend to run for Board Service in the next election cycle
• Commitment to participate in the selection process and, if selected, in the on-going meetings and conference calls of the Talent Council
• Previous experience as a contributor and/or volunteer within the ILTA community
Following is a list of the knowledge, skills, and attributes expected of a qualified Talent Council member. Individual candidates will exhibit different combinations of these criteria and in varying degrees. The ultimate goal of the selection process is to create a team whose combined characteristics make them well-suited to carry out the duties of the Talent Council.
KNOWLEDGE
Solid understanding of the concepts and information critical to executing the role through an awareness of and/or experience in the following areas:
• Knowledge of ILTA’s membership model and volunteer structure, as well as the breadth of networking and educational opportunities provided by the organization
• Understanding of the roles and responsibilities required of Board service including governance principles and the knowledge, skills and attributes expected of a Board member
• Familiarity with the various stakeholder groups that make up the ILTA community including members, individual participants, vendors, and other associations and an awareness of how each contributes to and consumes ILTA’s products and services
SKILLS
Demonstrated capabilities in order to execute the role effectively including the ability to:
• Assess whether a candidate possesses the desired knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary to serve as an effective member of the Board of Directors
• Work as part of a team to build consensus around decisions and ultimately serve as an advocate for those decisions among the membership and broader community
• Communicate in a manner that is consistent with the requirements of the situation and effectively reaches the intended audience
• Engage respectfully with others who have differing perspectives, opinions, and backgrounds in a way that encourages productive dialog
• Exercise sound judgment, act with discretion, and maintain confidentiality, especially when dealing with potentially sensitive and/or controversial issues

Specific qualities and traits that will contribute to the individual’s ability to effectively execute the responsibilities required of the role including:
• Commitment to fully participate in Talent Council activities including scheduled calls and specific assignments

• Embodiment of ILTA’s core values and mission in both professional and volunteer interactions
• Sense of service that places what is best for the organization and its members above any personal agenda or bias.
