Security – Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
To add password security to open a PDF document within Acrobat
- Open the PDF and click on TOOLS .
- Click on Protect.
- The Protect toolbar displays.
- Click on the Encrypt drop-down.
- Choose Encrypt with Password.
- Click Yes to change security if a prompt displays.
- Select the Require a password to open the document checkbox.
- Type a password in the Document Open Password field.
- Click on OK.
To restrict editing or printing of a PDF document
- Open the PDF and click on TOOLS .
- Click on Protect.
- The Protect toolbar displays.
- Click on the Encrypt drop-down.
- Choose Encrypt with Password.
- Click Yes to change security if a prompt displays.
- Select the Restrict editing and printing of the document checkbox.
- Make a selection from the Printing Allowed drop-down:
None – no printing of the PDF is permitted.
Low Resolution (150 dpi) – printing in low resolution only is permitted.
High Resolution – printing in high resolution only is permitted.
- Make a selection from the Changes Allowed drop-down:
- None—no editing of the PDF file is permitted.
- Inserting, deleting and rotating pages – the recipient may replace or rotate existing PDF pages.
- Filling in forms and signing existing signature fields – the recipient may move through the PDF file to fill in form fields and apply a digital signature only.
- Commenting, filling in form fields, and signing existing signature fields – the recipient may use the Comment and Markup tools in addition to the permissions noted above.
- Any except extracting pages – the recipient may use all available Acrobat tools, but may not remove pages from the file.
- If desired, select Enable copying of text, images and other content.
- If desired, select Enable text access for screen reader devices for the visually impaired.
- Type a password in the Change Permissions Password field.
- Click on OK.
- Click on OK again if prompted.
- Retype the password when prompted and click on OK.
To remove password security
- Open the PDF and click on TOOLS.
- Choose Protect.
- The Protect toolbar displays.
- Click on the Encrypt drop-down.
- Choose remove Security.
- Click on OK.
